Stop, men! Hold fast! Look there, on yonder tow’r! Poor Helen! O, my dear, my love! I fear to think what they- those beasts who fatten on their thrones of gold- have done to you, my heart! Inside their fortresses, their castle walls, they laugh when those whom they oppress collapse. Today’s battle will draw that to a close! For we, the brave warriors of fearsome Greece, as handsome as the gods and just as strong, today will crush the heathens where they stand- what could they do against such mighty foes? The sun will rise on our victorious helms the Trojans dead beneath our sharpened blades, and bards throughout the age shall sing our song! They come from the beaches! Quick, men! To arms! Defend our fair city, where heroes live; protect the men who call this country home! We Trojans will not fall to such a force! O Helen, what good we have done for you to rescue you from such a gruesome race Those savages, who fight without reason think they know how to treat an angel? Hah! We Trojans are the bravest of the brave; Undoubtedly the strongest in the world! For them to think that they could challenge us- our deadly archers posted on the walls- they think to make a mockery of our strength! This gate is where we show them they were wrong! |

Did it for the school literary magazine, started it over the summer and just finished it up over the weekend. First time I've legitimately tried to do a blank verse piece... I did a full-out Petrarchan Sonnet too, but I'll leave that a bit so that this has a chance for people to see it.
